MCKENZIES

Originally a dated department store on Hurstmere Road, this project involved the transformation of the site into a vibrant mixed-use precinct, delivering new retail, commercial, and hospitality spaces. Existing buildings were selectively retained, stripped back and upgraded, while others were removed to create a central open-air courtyard and laneway.

Key heritage elements, including exposed steel roof trusses and original brickwork, were preserved and integrated into a post-industrial design approach. The discovery and restoration of the original ceramic façade added further character and authenticity.

The revitalised development has contributed to the renewal of central Takapuna, creating a dynamic destination for retail and hospitality.
