MAD SAMURAI

Lanta was engaged to deliver the design and build of Mad Samurai; a boutique Japanese restaurant located within Auckland CBD’s Snickel Lane precinct. Created in collaboration with both Japanese and New Zealand restauranteurs, the fit-out combines contemporary detailing with subtle references to traditional Japanese hospitality and dining culture.

The interior was designed to feel clean, open and intimate, balancing dark timber finishes and monochromatic tones with warm copper accents and soft lantern lighting. A central feature open kitchen allows diners to engage directly with the cooking experience, bringing energy and theatre into the compact space. Flexible seating arrangements, including banquettes, dining tables, and outdoor leaners, support both casual dining and shared experiences within the laneway setting.
